The book provides a classification of nuclear tests conducted by five nuclear states (USA, USSR, UK, France
and China) from 1945 through 1996. It is the first attempt to show the entire picture and to describe, in a
comparative manner, the main features of the nuclear testing programs of all nuclear states. The book includes
a unified catalog of all known nuclear tests with their basic characteristics, and comments to the catalog.
The book has been published in English and is intended for a wide range of specialists, and those in the public
who are interested in the history of nuclear weapons creation and development of nuclear technologies.

The book has been prepared by a group of experts from the Ministry of the Russian
Federation for Atomic Energy and RFNC-VNIIEF including I.A.Andryushin, N.P.Voloshin, R.I.Ilkaev,
A.M.Matushchenko, L.D.Ryabev, V.G.Strukov, A.K.Chernyshev, and Yu.A.Yudin. The Editor-in-Chief of
the book is Academician V.N.Mikhailov, Minister for Atomic Energy (1992-1998).
The book was published by Begell-House, Inc., New York in 1999.
